NEW YORK - The Seton Hall women's track and field team placed first out of 25 teams at the Great Dane Invitational on Friday. The men's team finished 12th out of 26 squads. In all the Pirates sent 14 different athletes to the postseason.
Senior Krista Simkins (Wissahicken, Pa.) won the 200-meter dash in an ECAC qualifying time of 24.30. Simkins also cruised to a victory in the 400-meter dash, posting a 54.67 to pick up a second ECAC Championship individual event.
Freshman Ivanique Kemp (Nassau, Bahamas) hit an ECAC Championship qualifying time in the 55-meter dash, clocking in at 7.16 in the finals of the event. Kemp and sophomore Charisse Bryant (Virginia Beach, Va.) also notched ECAC qualifying times in the 55-meter hurdles. Kemp ran a 7.89 in the finals, while Bryant finished with a time of 8.24 in the prelims.
Also in the women's 200-meter dash, senior Toneisha Friday (Somerset, N.J.), Kemp and Janay Mitchell (Teaneck, N.J.) also posted ECAC times in the event, running times of 24.96, 25.03, and 25.05 respectively.
Friday also participated in the 400-meter dash where she crossed the tape in 55.73 to punch a ticket to ECAC's.
Seton Hall had the top-three finishers in the women's 500-meter dash, with the trio all hitting ECAC Championship standard times. Senior Jernail Hayes (Newark, Del.) won the event, hitting a time of 1:13.06. Freshman Nijgia Snapp (Mays Landing, N.J.) followed with a 1:13.12, and junior KeAira Dickerson (Wilmington, Del.) was third in 1:13.74.
Dickerson was also victorious in the 800-meter run, recording a BIG EAST Championship time of 2:16.02.
Junior Chris Cox (Manahawkin, N.J.), in his first appearance of the indoor season, turned in a 48.95 performance in the 400-meter dash to earn a spot at the IC4A Championships.
Senior Kamar Ellis achieved a time of 1:03.61 in the 500-meter dash for a berth at the IC4A's as well.
Junior Stafford McFarlane (Norwalk, Conn.) completed the 800-meter dash in 1:53.81 to earn a spot in the IC4A Championships.
Junior Nick Frimpong (East Hartford, Conn.) won the triple jump with an attempt of 14.95 meters, securing a place at the IC4A Championships. Senior John Ramos (Hamburg, N.J.) qualified for the BIG EAST's in the same event with a jump of 13.65 meters.
Freshman Antonio Reynolds (Orlando, Fla.) hit a BIG EAST standard time of 22.62 in the 200-meter dash. Classmate Mamadou Niang (North Caldwell, N.J.) will join Reynolds at the conference championships after posting a 1:05.27 in the 500-meter dash.
The Pirates are back in action on Friday, January 29 at the prestigious Millrose Games, held at Madison Square Garden.
