Student-Athlete Academic Performance Reaches All-Time High

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - In addition to their on-field success, Seton Hall student-athletes continue to excel in the classroom.

As a whole, the cumulative GPA for all Seton Hall student-athletes has reached 3.207, the highest it has ever been.

This achievement is a result of the commitment displayed by SHU faculty, academic support staff, athletics staff and student-athletes in the continued pursuit of academic excellence and a balanced student-athlete experience.

In 2010-11, 158 student-athletes were named BIG EAST Academic All-Stars. The number reflects 67 percent of the student-athlete population and was an increase from 140 the previous year.

The women's soccer program, which led the Pirates for the second straight year with 19 Academic All-Stars in 2010-11, boasts the highest cumulative GPA after the fall semester. Shortly after the conclusion of the 2011 season, it was announced that the team had earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the 2010-11 academic year.

Senior captain Ashley Beamish (Buffalo, N.Y.), whose 89th minute goal powered SHU past St. John's in the opening round of BIG EAST Tournament, became the first member of the women's soccer program to earn Academic All-District First Team honors since 2006.

On the men's side, the golf team completed the fall semester with the highest cumulative GPA. Last year, the golf squad placed nearly all of its members on the BIG EAST All-Academic Team.
