Three Individuals and Men's 4x400 Relay Hit NCAA Provisional Times at Collegiate Invite


NEW YORK - The Seton Hall track and field teams had another productive weekend at the Collegiate Invitational. Seniors Krista Simkins (Wissahicken, Pa.) turned in two NCAA provisional times at the event. Classmate Toneisha Friday (Somerset, N.J.), junior Christopher Cox (Manahawkin, N.J.) and the men's 4x400-meter relay team also joined Simkins by hitting NCAA provisional times.


Simkins posted her first provisional time of 24.06 in the preliminary heats of the 200-meter dash. She shaved off .05 seconds in the finals, and finished in seventh place. In the 400-meter dash, Simkins posted a 54.14 in the preliminaries.


Friday hit a mark of 55.00 in the prelims of the 400-meter dash, which is the exact time of the NCAA provisional standard.


Cox posted the first NCAA provisional time for any male runner, finishing the 400-meter dash preliminary heats with a time of 47.55.


The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Sean Morris (Burlington, N.J.), Kamar Ellis (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Marvin Carter (Bordentown, N.J.), and Cox cruised to a time of 3:13.14 and will be in the running for an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships.


Senior Louise Faye (Thiais, France) won the 500-meter dash in 1:15.05 and secured a berth at the ECAC Championships with her performance. Faye also hit an ECAC qualifying mark in the triple jump with an attempt of 12.07 meters.


In the women's 800-meter run, freshman Nijgia Snapp (Mays Landing, N.J.) and junior KeAira Dickerson (Wilmington, Del.) finished first and second. Snapp posted a time of 2:10.59, while Dickerson followed with a 2:10.98, respectively.


Freshman Ivanique Kemp (Nassau, Bahamas) also picked up a victory in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking in at 8.58.


Junior Alexandra Hehn (Toms River, N.J.) ran a 2:58.09 in the 1,000-meter run to qualify for her first event at the BIG EAST Championships.


The women's 4x800-meter relay team of Faye, Hughnique Rolle (Nassau, Bahamas), Hehn and Dickerson hit its best time of the season, crossing the tape in 9:19.42.


Junior Nick Frimpong (East Hartford, Conn.) won the triple jump, hitting an ECAC qualifying mark of 14.91 meters.


The Pirates have this week off in preparation for the BIG EAST Indoor Championships, being held from Feb. 20-21 at the Armory in New York.
