SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – As a part of an ongoing series of events aimed at professional development, Seton Hall student-athletes recently had the opportunity to attend a seminar centered on the virtual networking hub, LinkedIn.
Members from all 14 varsity programs were in attendance for a special presentation by Seton Hall alum, Jim DiPietropolo. Jim, the Managing Partner at Adison & Partners – Talent Management Solutions, discussed how as part of his job duties, he utilizes LinkedIn when searching for potential applicants for his clients.
“When you consider that many of us will be entering the job market within a year or so, it is important to understand what employers and recruiters are looking for in prospective employees,” said Joey Lacus, a junior on the men’s swimming and diving team. “Mr. DiPietropolo was gracious enough to take the time to come speak to us and his position as an executive recruiter helped provide unique insight regarding the value of effectively managing your LinkedIn profile and how by being proactive, we can help separate ourselves from other candidates.”
Jim discussed the importance of properly using LinkedIn for networking and connecting with Seton Hall Alumni around the country. He also noted that it is important to display all relevant work experience as part of a LinkedIn profile, adding that athletics can often fall into that category.
“I think the majority of us took away a lot that we will use moving forward,” Lacus continued. “It was certainly a valuable experience and I know that I am now better equipped to try and kick-start my career.”
