Track & Field Runs at Raleigh Relays and Monmouth Invitational


RALEIGH, N.C. and WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J - The Seton Hall track and field teams split up and competed at the Raleigh Relays and the Monmouth Invitational this weekend. The Pirates had a large group of runners earn postseason events.


Senior Krista Simkins (Wissahicken, Pa.) ran a time of 11.97 in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash to earn a place at the ECAC Outdoor Championships. Senior Jernail Hayes (Newark, Del.) was a fraction of a second behind in the race to place seventh heading into the finals. Freshman Janay Mitchell (Teaneck, N.J.) clocked in at 12.10 in the event as well to join her teammates at the ECAC's.


In the finals of the event, Hayes shaved .01 off her time to finish in fourth place. Simkins ran a 12.07, good enough to place ninth.


Hayes also picked up a victory in the 200-meter dash invitational race, crossing the finish line in 23.76 to earn a second berth at the ECAC's. Simkins finished with a time of 24.09 and took fifth place honors.


In the 400-meter dash, senior Louise Faye (Thiais, France) turned in an ECAC worthy effort, hitting a 55.86 to place seventh. Faye also earned  a spot in the ECAC's in the triple jump with an attempt of 12.29 meters to finish fourth.


Sophomore Charisse Bryant (Virginia Beach, Va.) hit a BIG EAST qualifying standard of 14.53 in the preliminary heats of the 100-meter hurdles.


Junior Alexandra Hehn (Toms River, N.J.) also posted a conference championship worthy time of 1:03.37.


The women's 4x100-meter, 4x400-meter, and 4x800-meter relays each posted ECAC qualifying times in their respective events. The 4x100-meter finished second with a time of45.73, while the 4x400 was seventh with a  3:45.53, and the 4x800 turned in a sixth place finish in 9:13.15


Senior Sean Morris (Burlington, N.J.) qualified for the BIG EAST's in the 400-meter dash, posting a time of 48.68. Freshman Antonio Reynolds (Orlando, Fla.) will join Morris after running a 48.96.


Sophomore Sean Schnarr (Bordentown, N.J.) clocked in at 15.01 in the 110-meter hurdles to secure a place at the BIG EAST Championships.


Like the women, the Pirates men had a strong meet in the relay events. The 4x100-meter relay hit a time of 41.91 to place 10th, and the 4x400 came in at 3:11.13 for a sixth place finish.


In the long jump, senior Carl Smith (Camden, N.J.) posted an ECAC qualifying mark of 7.23 meters to finish seventh.


At the Monmouth meet, freshman Ricky Okoye (Spara, N.J.) hurled the discus 43.62 meters to earn his first BIG EAST Championship event.


Seton Hall will split squads next weekend with a portion of the team travelling to the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va. and another group heading to the Princeton Invitational
