PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Seton Hall track and field team competed at the 2010 Penn Relays over the weekend and had another strong showing. This was the final tune-up before the Pirates compete at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships from April 30-May 2.
The men's 4x400-meter relay came up with a victory in the IC4A race, beating Rutgers by .06 seconds. The quartet composed of Sean Morris (Burlington, N.J.), Carl Smith (Camden, N.J.), Kamar Ellis (Brooklyn, N.Y.), and Chris Cox (Manahawkin, N.J.) ran a time of 3:11.00.
Smith also qualified for the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships in the 400-meter hurdles, hitting a time of 54.63 to place 23rd.
The women's 4x100-meter relay team took fourth place in the ECAC portion of the competition, completing the lap in 45.77. The team was comprised of Brittany Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio), Krista Simkins (Wissahicken, Pa.), Janay Mitchell (Teaneck, N.J.), and Jernail Hayes (Newark, Del.).
The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Louise Faye (Thaias, France), Simkins, Nijgia Snapp (Mays Landing, N.J.), and Hayes picked up a win in the ECAC race. The quartet won clocked in at 3:37.02 and beat the second place team by more than three seconds.
In the women's sprint medley Championship of America event, the relay team of Mitchell, Simkins, Hayes, and Snapp turned in a fourth place finish, posting a time of 3:55.97.
