JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Both the Seton Hall men's and women's basketball teams were well represented at the second annual Walk for Team Walker, held last Saturday in Jersey City. Men's basketball coach Kevin Willard was in attendance with his family, and spoke to walkers to start the event. Former Pirates (and current members of Coach Willard's staff) Shaheen Holloway and Grant Billmeier also participated in the walk as well.
Joining the coaching staff were both current and former men's and women's basketball players, including Jeff Robinson, John Garcia, Kashmere Joseph, and Alexandra Maseko. The Seton Hall Pirate also made an appearance, getting walkers excited before participating in the walk.
"It was great to see Coach Willard and the players come out to this event and help support the kids of Team Walker," said Jerry Walker, former Seton Hall basketball star and President/CEO of Team Walker who led the team to three trips to the NCAA Tournament. "It's also fun when the athletic department is able to send out the Pirate to brighten everyone's day."
Team Walker is an organization co-founded in 1996 by Walker and his brother Jasper. The group has a vision to provide a program for inner-city youth that focuses on teamwork, responsibility, persistence and unity. This program grants the kids constructive academic and recreational activities in which to participate in as a replacement to the negative alternatives on the streets.
