SHUPirates.com Athlete of the Week (January 22, 2015)
Freshman Kylene Ronayne was the standout performer in a decisive 167-117 victory over the visiting Iona Gaels last week; not missing a beat in the Pirates' first competitive outing in over 50 days.
Ronayne delivered a meet high three victories, turning in the fastest time in the 200-free (1:57.13), 500-free (5:12.04) and 200-IM (2:13.61) as part of an effort that included 10 individual wins for the Pirates on the women's side.
The newcomer has now been the first to reach the wall in all five of her individual races over two home meets at Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium and also contributed to a first-place finish in the 400-free relay to cap the impressive evening.
Her performance earned the first BIG EAST Women's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week award of her career as she became the third Pirate this season and the first on the women's side to be recognized by the conference this season.
Ronayne and The Hall will have a chance to add to a growing ledger of success this weekend when the team hosts Marist on Saturday (!/24) before traveling to take on Connecticut the following day.
