SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Nine Seton Hall University athletic teams registered a perfect score in the latest single-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) data released by the NCAA.
During 2011-12, the baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball and women’s soccer programs posted a perfect 1000 score for the second consecutive academic year. These programs join the group of a school record five teams - the men’s golf, women’s golf, softball, women’s tennis and volleyball squads - that recently received NCAA APR Public Recognition Awards for logging a multi-year APR that ranks in the top-10 percent among the entire NCAA membership in accomplishing the feat.
The volleyball program has come in at the perfect 1000 mark in each of the last seven years, while men’s golf achieved APR perfection for the seventh time in eight years. Softball and women’s tennis have achieved the optimal rate in four consecutive reports and women’s golf has maintained a perfect rating in each year since the program’s inception in 2010.
Student-Athlete academic performance has reached a new level at Seton Hall over the past year. 11 of the Pirates’ 14 varsity athletic teams boasted a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) over 3.0 at the conclusion of the spring semester and the cumulative GPA for all SHU student-athletes currently stands at 3.251, a new all-time high.
