The event was a great success for all involved. Approximately 2,100 people came out to support The Valerie Fund and raised nearly $200,000 to help children with cancer or blood disorders. This event continues to grow each year, as last year’s walk and run saw only about one-third of the participants and money raised.
While the weather turned downcast and it began to rain before the start time for the walk, it did not keep anyone from participating in the event including the enthusiastic Seton Hall Pirates mascot, who cheered on participants and posed for pictures with runners and walkers alike.
Trophies were awarded to the top three finishers in the run, as well as runners who placed high in certain age brackets. In addition, food, music, trivia, prizes, and free t-shirts were provided to everyone who came to
“The Valerie Fund wants to thank all of the people involved in making this event a tremendous success. We had a record number of walkers and runners despite the bad weather and were also able to raise a record amount of money. I also need to thank WCBS-TV and JAG Physical Therapy for their support as presenting sponsors,” Barry Kirschner, Executive Director of The Valerie Fund.
