Basketball Teams Support Fourth Annual Walk for Team Walker

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Members of the Seton Hall University men's and women's basketball teams along with SHU Department of Athletics administrators and coaches took part in the Fourth Annual Walk for Team Walker on Saturday, June 16, at Exchange Place in Jersey City, N.J.

The event benefits Team Walker, a non-profit organization founded by former Seton Hall men's basketball standout and Athletics Hall of Famer Jerry Walker along with his brother Jasper.

Team Walker strives to create programs which provide safe and constructive alternatives to the negative influences that plague inner-city youth. The organization is able to provide year-round academic and athletic programs in Jersey City, including after school tutorials, cultural learning and athletic programs.

"Team Walker is a great organization run by former Seton Hall University basketball player Jerry Walker," said Coordinator of Student-Athlete Development and Special Projects Melanie Calderwood. "It is important for the Seton Hall Department of Athletics to support kids of Jersey City through Team Walker. It was a chance for Seton Hall's student-athletes, fans and supporters to come together to benefit a great cause."

The fund raising walk around downtown Jersey City also featured live music, games and prizes, with all proceeds benefiting the Team Walker Learning Center, a facility designed to benefit the children of Jersey City that is currently under construction

"It was a fun experience, at the event we had a chance to spend time with a lot of kids from that area and meet some of our young fans," said men's basketball sophomore Haralds Karlis (Riga, Latvia).

Members of the Seton Hall men's and women's basketball teams each received the Most Dedicated Team awards at the conclusion of the event.
