Golf, Women's Soccer, and Softball Win BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. The Seton Hall men’s golf, women’s soccer, and softball programs have earned the BIG EAST 2008-09 Team Academic Excellence Awards, recognizing the highest collective grade-point averages in each conference sport.

Only DePaul, finishing with a conference-best seven teams win the award, had more teams recognized than Seton Hall. Notre Dame and Syracuse also had three teams honored, while Cincinnati and St. John’s had two, and Georgetown, Louisville, USF and West Virginia had one each. Overall, ten BIG EAST schools had at least one team earn their respective award.

The winning teams included Notre Dame’s women’s tennis and men’s swimming and diving teams which captured BIG EAST championships in 2008-09. Louisville’s field hockey team, which won a share of the 2008 regular-season title, was also among the honored teams.

The winners were chosen based on the 2008-09 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appears on an institution’s squad list in a particular sport.
