PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The BIG EAST Conference announced that 158 Seton Hall student-athletes have been named BIG EAST Academic All-Stars. The number represents 67 percent of the student-athlete population and is a jump from 140 from the 2009-10 academic year.
To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in a BIG EAST-sponsored sport, earned a varsity letter, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.
For the second straight year, women's soccer led the Pirates with 19 Academic All-Stars, while the men's and women's swimming and diving and baseball teams had 18 apiece. Men's soccer and softball each added 15, and volleyball posted 13. The men's and women's cross country programs, along with men's and women's golf had nearly all of its squad receive the honor.
