The Pirate Blue Athletic Fund held its third annual Pirate Blue Beefsteak Tip-Off Dinner on Sept. 29 in Walsh Gym and raised over $40,000 for Seton Hall Athletics. This represents a 60% increase in funds raised from last season's dinner. Over 400 fans, alumni and friends attended this year's dinner making it a sell out for the third straight year.
The Pirate Blue Beefsteak event has become a signature annual event amongst the Pirate faithful. Pirate fans had the opportunity to meet Athletics Director, Patrick Lyons while also hearing a season preview from Women's Basketball Head Coach Anne Donovan and Men's Basketball Head Coach Kevin Willard. A highlight for all in attendance is the chance to also spend time with members of both the women's and men's basketball programs. As in years past, the student-athletes were seated with Pirate Blue members and alumni throughout the dining area.
"The success of our Pirate Blue Beefsteak event continues to improve each year and we have our loyal Pirate Blue supporters to thank for that," said Athletics Director Patrick Lyons. "Pirate Pride was on display throughout the evening and provided our student-athletes with yet another example of what it means to represent such a great University."
The evening featured an extensive silent auction with a variety of items including vacations, golf foursomes, memorabilia and the centerpiece of the evening - the original 1989 National Championship Runner-Up Banner.
Several sponsors provided critical funding for the evenings event, including: Gourmet Dining LLC, Hodges Party Rentals, Adison & Partners, Country Club Services, MTM Resources, Seton Pharmaceuticals, the Thomas and Ruth Sharkey Family Foundation, Travelers Insurance and Zimmerer, Murray, Conyngham & Kunzier.
