Ashley Clarke, Women's SoccerAfter having a hand in all three goals in a 3-1 win over Cincinnati last Friday night, junior midfielder Ashley Clarke (Paramus, N.J.) is named the SHUPirates.com Athlete of the Week. It is the second time this season that Clarke has earned Athlete of the Week honors.
With her team trailing by one, Clarke scored the first goal of the game for Seton Hall on Friday, taking advantage of a Bearcat turnover to fire a shot into the top corner, her third strike of the season.
Later in the second half she took a pass from junior midfielder Brittney Albrecht(Mahwah, N.J.) and served a beautiful pass in to redshirt senior forward Stephanie Soma (Franklin, Mass.), who settled and shot over Cincinnati goalkeeper Kristina Utley to give the Pirates a 2-1 lead and score her fifth goal of the season.
Just three minutes later Clarke helped start what evolved into Seton Hall's third goal of the game. Again she connected with Albrecht, this time passing out to her classmate on the right side, who quickly moved the ball up to junior forward Katie Ritter (Hagerstown, Md.). Ritter dribbled into the box and easily scored to the far post, picking up her third goal of the year.
Clarke's night was a historic one personally, as with two assists she increased her season tally to eight which moved her into a tie for first in the Seton Hall single-season list with SHU Hall of Famer Kelly Smith.
With 12 assists in her career Clarke is tied for fourth place in school history and her 14 points this season are the 10th-best single-season effort in school history. She also finished Friday night's game with a career-high eight shot attempts.
Seton Hall concludes its season this Friday, Oct. 19, when it hosts Rutgers University at Owen T. Carroll Field at 7 p.m.
