SHUPirates.com Athlete of the Week (October 31, 2012)

Kerrie Kolackovsky, Women's Swimming & Diving

Junior Kerrie Kolackovsky (Franklin Square,N.Y.) helped lead a dominant effort in the pool as the Seton Hall women's & diving team swept the competition at a quad meet in Baltimore, Md. on Saturday. The Pirates defeated Drexel, Lafayette and hosts Loyola by a margin of at least 65 points each, improving their record to a perfect 5-0 through the first two weeks of the season.

In three individual events, Kolackovsky posted her fifth and sixth victories of the season and added another top-three finish in the other. More impressively, the junior's two wins came in consecutive events for the women.

After beginning the day by taking third-place points in the 200-yard freestyle, Kolackovsky next stepped to the block for the 200-yard breaststroke, an event in which she holds the top time in school history. The Franklin Square native turned in a time of 2:23.87, defeating all swimmers from other competing schools by over eight seconds. Freshman Megan Mallon placed second in the race to make up a 1-2 SHU finish.

Following the men's 200-yard breaststroke, Kolackovsky was right back in the pool for the 500-yard freestyle. In the distance race, she again surpassed the field by a wide margin, capturing first-place points after touching in 5:08.49. Teammates Brenna O'Keefe and Katie Adams followed Kolackovsky to the wall, rounding out an all-Pirate top-three in the event.

Seton Hall was the only women's team to claim all three top spots in a single event on the day.

With the results, Kolackovsky improved her own previous marks for the fastest 200-yard breaststroke and 500-yard freestyle times on the team early in the season. She also took over the top spot with the quickest 200-yard freestyle for SHU (1:55.57) and has now finished in the top-three in all eight of her individual swims this year.

To close the day, Kolackovsky anchored a 400-yard freestyle relay team that included Gabi Levine, Rae Congdon, and Alie Zelenky that combined to register the eighth event victory of the day for The Hall. Her final leg time of 52.90 was the lowest mark by any competitor in the 12-team race and gave SHU its second consecutive win in the event.

Following her stellar performance, Kerrie Kolackovsky is the SHUPirates.com Athlete of the Week.

The Pirates return to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 3 for a home meet with BIG EAST foe Providence College. Start-time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. from the Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium.
