Brittany Morris, Women's Basketball
Over the first weekend of the 2012-13 season, senior guard Brittany Morris (Raleigh, N.C.) has established herself as a versatile force for a Seton Hall women’s basketball team that opened the year with wins over NJIT and Lafayette.

A veteran presence in the Pirate backcourt, Morris has more than 80 games played and over 50 starts in her career. Through the first two contests, she has embraced a more central role on the offensive end and delivered a pair of superlative performances over a three-day span.

Against NJIT, the Raleigh native logged 34 minutes in one of the best-rounded efforts she has produced in Seton Hall uniform. As part of a 69-66 victory, she netted 15 points to lead all Pirate scorers and added three assists. The senior shooting guard aided the win with a career night from the foul line as she converted on all eight of her attempts.  Morris also made her impact felt on the defensive end, matching her previous personal best by grabbing a team-high seven rebounds.

In a Sunday matinee matchup with Lafayette, Morris lit up Walsh Gymnasium with a prolific shooting performance. She found the mark on eight of her 10 shots, including shooting 3-for-4 from downtown, pacing a 60-54 triumph with 23 points of her own. It was the fifth time that Morris has scored at least 20 points in her career, and was the highest offensive output she has had against a non-conference opponent.

She also grabbed five more rebounds, made two steals and led all players with four assists to help the Pirates hand the Leopards their first loss of the season.

With four made three-pointers so far this season, Morris is now in sole possession of fifth place on the school’s all-time list with 108 treys in her career. She needs just three more to move past Melissa Langelier (’01-04) for third in school history.

Seton Hall Athletics Hall of Famer Jodi Brooks (’90-94) and Ebonie Williams (’07-10) sit atop the list, each with 156 career three-pointers made respectively.

After helping the Pirates to two season-opening wins, Brittany Morris of women’s basketball is the SHUPirates.com Athlete of the Week.
