SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall University student-athletes, in conjunction with the H.A.L.L. Program, were very active during the recent "It's On Us" National Week of Action. The Pirates released a new public service announcement, heard from speaker Janet Judge and signed a pledge banner that proudly hangs at the entrance of the Richie Regan Athletics & Recreation Center.
Launched by President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, the "It's On Us" campaign aims to fundamentally shift the way the world thinks about sexual assault and encourages students to create safe environments across college campuses -- from dorms and locker rooms to fraternities and sororities.
"It's important for our student-athletes to get behind this initiative because it impacts everyone on Seton Hall's campus - not just student-athletes, but general students and staff as well," said Roberto Sasso, Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Development & Leadership, and the director of the H.A.L.L. Program. "The goal is to keep campus safe and prevent these violent incidences from taking place. They're doing just that by promoting this incredible initiative in conjunction with the White House."
For a second straight academic year, Seton Hall produced an "It's On Us" public service announcement (PSA) to bring awareness to sexual assault. Several current student-athletes from a myriad of athletic programs took part in the filming. CLICK HERE to watch the final PSA.
All student-athletes were invited to listen to Janet Judge speak on several topics including sexual violence prevention. Judge is the founder and president of Sports Law Associates, LLC, and works with college and university presidents, general counsel and athletics administrators to develop and implement risk reduction strategies. She's also a board member at HazingPrevention.org.
Finally, all Seton Hall student-athletes, coaches and administrators signed a banner to pledge that they will do their part to end sexual assault. The "It's On Us" banner currently flies above the lobby of the Ritchie Regan Athletics & Recreation Center and shows the solidarity the department has with the campaign.
