Five student-athletes from Seton Hall University visited the Allen W. Roberts School in New Providence, N.J., Friday morning as part of the "Reading with the Pirates" program. Participating in this school visit was Alyssa Warren, a junior volleyball player from Joliet, Illinois, Joey Lacus, a junior swimmer from Wethersfield, Connecticut, Faith Laudano, a freshman softball player from Islip, New York, and women's basketball players Sidney Cook, a freshman from Parkton, North Carolina, and junior Jazzmine Johnson from Glen Dale, Maryland.
The student-athletes spent the morning reading books to small groups of third graders focusing on themes including the importance of teamwork and good sportsmanship. Afterwards the student-athletes talked about the challenges of balancing life at Seton Hall as a Division I student-athlete. They answered questions, shared stories, and spoke openly about the importance of reading and working hard in school.
The visit to the Allen W. Roberts School was part of the Seton Hall Athletics department -wide "Reading with the Pirates" program launched earlier this fall. All students who participated in the program were given Seton Hall goodie bags filled with prizes, including bookmarks with access codes for two free tickets to a men's and a women's home basketball game.
