Tabatha Richardson-Smith, Women’s Basketball
Freshman forward Tabatha Richardson-Smith (Bay City, Texas) connected on a second half three-pointer against Siena, starting a 12-2 SHU run that spurred the Pirates to a 57-48 victory.
Richardson-Smith led all scorers with a career-high 19 points, guiding Seton Hall to its third victory of the season. The Bay City native converted on an impressive 8-of-11 field goal attempts, including 3-of-6 from downtown and tied for the team-high by adding six rebounds while logging 30 minutes in a reserve role. Her eight made field goals and three trifectas matched the single-game season-highs set by Brittany Morris (Raleigh, N.C.) in a win over Lafayette.
Richardson-Smith’s 19 points were the most scored by a Seton Hall freshman since BIG EAST All-Freshman Team selection Ka-Deidre Simmons (Newark, N.J.) announced her arrival on the collegiate scene by dropping 19 points in her debut against Florida Gulf Coast (11/12/10).
Through eight contests, the freshman has been an offensive spark off the bench averaging 7.1 points per game, the third-highest total on the squad. She also ranks second on the team in three-pointers made, free-throw percentage, blocks, and rebounds per 40 minutes (3.8 per game).
On the heels of the best offensive performance of her young career, Tabatha Richardson Smith is this week’s SHUPirates.com Athlete of the Week.
