TUCSON, ARIZ. -- Seton Hall freshman Cullen Dana (Montgomery, N.Y.) was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Team, selected by Collegiate Baseball on Wednesday.
Following in McCarthy's footsteps as an impact freshman starting pitcher, Dana excelled in his first year in South Orange. Named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team, the left-hander earned BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honors twice and landed on the Weekly Honor Roll also twice this season.
Dana finished the 2016 season ranked second in the BIG EAST with seven wins and a miniscule .201 opponent batting average. Additionally, he ranked among the BIG EAST top-10 in 10 other categories including strikeouts and earned run average. On May 15 vs. St. John's, he tossed his first career complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts and no walks. On March 26, he pitched seven no-hit innings in a victory over Army.
It's the third straight year Seton Hall has had a member of the Freshman All-American Team. Shane McCarthy (Fair Haven, N.J.) was honored last year and Anthony Pacillo (Lyndhurst, N.J.) earned the distinction in 2014.
