I am pleased to announce that the new fitness center is near completion and a blessing ceremony is scheduled in the facility on January 21st at 4:00 p.m. With the walls and glass exterior in place, the focus of the construction work has shifted internally with aesthetics and the installation of equipment. We expect fitness classes to begin shortly in the new space.
Last month, a dedication ceremony was held in the new Charles W. Doehler Academic Center. Thanks to the generosity and support of several Pirate Blue donors, many of which were in attendance during the dedication, we have more than doubled the size than that previously dedicated to academic support. Replete with amenities aimed at facilitating the educational process, the Center includes two group meeting rooms, two private tutoring areas, and a set of study lounges and offices for the academic support staff as well as the director of student-athlete development. Each section features a sleek design and is filled with modern furniture as well as a host of Seton Hall-specific branding.
Pirates In The Community
Our coaches and student-athletes continue to give back to the community at a high rate when they're not on the athletic field or in the classroom. Seton Hall student-athletes, coaches and staff have now performed over 2,000 hours of community service since July.
Last month, eight student-athletes from five different sports visited Brooklake Elementary School to read to third and fourth graders. On December 18, the men's basketball team visited the children's wing of St. Barnabas Medical Center, and the next day, the men's soccer team went to the Capelli Sports Complex to assist and host a soccer clinic for special need students. Earlier this week, our women's basketball team visited the Nicholas Copernicus School to host a skills clinic and talk about life as a student-athlete.
I have always believed that community service should be a significant part of the student-athlete experience, and our programs have certainly made us proud in this regard thus far this year.
Tuesday, January 28th will be Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night for Women's Basketball when the Pirates face Creighton at 7:00 p.m. in Walsh Gym. All faculty/staff in attendance will receive a free Pirates travel mug upon entrance with a valid SHU-issued ID.
On January 29th we'll be hosting "White Out Wednesday" at the Prudential Center when the men's basketball team takes on Butler. The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a free Seton Hall branded t-shirt and the naming of the student section will be announced!

If Seton Hall women's basketball is your passion, each of the Pirates' home games will be video streamed live from Walsh Gymnasium also through Pirate Sports Network at SHUpirates.com.
