Thank You For Your Support at the Beefsteak
Last Thursday was a terrific evening of food, fun and basketball. Our seventh annual Beefsteak Dinner is one of our signature Pirate Blue events, and it's the ceremonial tip-off to our basketball season.
We can't thank enough all the attendees, event sponsors and our silent auction participants for their support not only of the Beefsteak Dinner, but also for the support of our student-athletes. They are the ones who directly benefit from your generosity and loyalty.
Thanks to you, Pirate Blue raised over $90,000 for a second consecutive year, a tremendous accomplishment. We also set a new event record with over $50,000 raised through our silent auction.
Transformative Leadership Forum Gift
We were thrilled to announce last month that we have received a transformative gift from Pat and Mary Ann Murray, two longtime supporters of Seton Hall Athletics, which will go towards our student-athlete leadership forum and the renovation of our administrative offices. Our annual leadership forum, which brings together our student-athletes with distinguished panel of successful professionals in a wide variety of career fields, will henceforth be known as The Patrick M. and Mary Ann Pfaff Murray Leadership Forum for Student-Athletes.
I want to thank Pat and Mary Ann for their loyal support of our athletics department, and I want to thank them for recognizing how important it is for us to invest not only in our student-athletes while they are at Seton Hall, but also invest in their future and what they hope to accomplish after they graduate. Recognizing how important our work with the H.A.L.L. Program and the leadership forum shows the leadership qualities Pat and Mary Ann possess, and I am excited that the leadership forum will now bear their name.
Pat is excited to be a part of next year's leadership forum, which will take place on Monday, Feb. 8 at Walsh Gymnasium. To read more about the gift, click here.
Join Us at Our Upcoming Events
October is a busy month around South Orange, and I want to encourage you to come out and support the Pirates at a few of our events.
This Friday is our Pirate Basketball Preview event, held at Nielsen Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram in East Hanover, N.J. Both of our basketball teams will be in attendance, and it is the perfect opportunity to chat and take photos with our coaches and student-athletes, get some autographs and win some prizes. We had a great time at last year's event and are excited to go back again this year. Thank you to our great partners at Nielsen, who put on a fantastic night for our fans.
The event is Friday from 6-8 p.m. at 175 Route 10 in East Hanover, N.J., 07936.
Also this Monday is our 2015 Coach Mike Sheppard Golf Outing, held at the Maplewood Country Club in Maplewood, N.J. The outing is a celebration of the tradition and success our baseball program has had throughout its history, and your support of this outing goes directly towards helping our baseball student-athletes.
We hope you'll be able to join us at Maplewood Country Club. For information on schedule and entry fees, please click here.
Basketball Season Around the Corner - Season Tickets Available
Our men's & women's basketball teams have officially opened fall practice, and the regular season is just around the corner. Both of our teams open the season at home on Nov. 13; the women host Bryant at Walsh Gym at 11 a.m., and the men welcome Dartmouth to Prudential Center at 7 p.m.
The best way to see our men's and women's teams is to purchase season tickets, which start at only $153 for the men and $45 for the women. Season ticket holders receive the best seats, get priority access to BIG EAST Tournament tickets, receive special invitations to private events and also get access to other events at Prudential Center such as concerts and Devils games.
Be sure to contact the Seton Hall Athletics Ticket office at (973) 275-HALL to discuss your season ticket options. Hope to see you at the games!
Grow-A-Row Event a Success
One of our favorite days on the calendar is our volunteer day at America's Grow-A-Row, a day where our student-athletes help harvest food to feed the hungry. Last month, 50 of our student-athletes spent the day harvesting over 11,000 pounds of produce!
That was a tremendous effort by our student-athletes, who have a strong understanding of our university's mission of developing servant leaders. I want to thank each of them for not only volunteering, but also embracing their role as difference makers in our community.

Support Our Fall Teams
We are in the thick of the fall season as our men's & women's soccer and volleyball teams are in the middle of conference play and our cross country teams are beginning to compete regularly every weekend.
Be sure to come out to our home games as often as you can. Our teams thrive on your support, as they chase berths in the BIG EAST Championship. Be sure to check the promotions schedule for some special days either at Owen T. Carroll Field or Walsh Gym.
Also please join me in wishing our men's & women's cross country teams the best of luck as they compete in the BIG EAST Championship on Saturday, Oct. 31 in Mason, Ohio.
Be Sure to Watch Our New Show: On Deck
A new feature to our website, SHUPirates.com, and the Pirate Sports Network is our new show "On Deck" with our host John Fanta. The show is aimed to help inform Pirates fans about what our teams and student-athletes are up to. You will get some special access, some features and some offbeat items that hopefully will entertain you. John is a terrific host, and he does a great job promoting all the great things our student-athletes are doing here.
Be sure to catch episodes each Friday during the semester by logging on to SHUPirates.com.
