Welcome Back Student-Athletes
On Tuesday, our department held its annual "Welcome Back" event, which serves as the unofficial start to the new academic year. It is always a nice opportunity to get all of our student-athletes together to wish them luck and update them on our goals and initiatives.
Per past years, the event included a commissioning service, offered by Rev. Warren Hall, to the student-athlete contingent as well as the coaches in attendance, which reinforced the importance of sportsmanship and representing the University with pride. Upon completion of the formal gathering, the student-athletes were invited to a barbeque held in both the Walsh Gymnasium and Natatorium lobbies where they received a welcome back gift.
This event is a staple of our H.A.L.L. (Helping Athletes Learn to be Leaders) Program , which now enters its second year and is aimed at providing a truly balanced student-athlete experience that honors the University mission of molding servant leaders. One of the five tenets of The H.A.L.L. Program is "spiritual development," as the program aims to further the University's catholic mission and traditions through offering a number of voluntary activities and engagement opportunities.

As the landscape of collegiate athletics continues to evolve, I wanted to take a moment to touch on recent changes to the NCAA Governance structure. In August, new legislation was approved restructuring how institutions and conferences implement rules within Division I by granting autonomy to the Power Five football bowl division schools. It is important to emphasize to our student-athletes, alumni and fans that we remain committed to competing at the highest level, while providing the necessary resources to recruit elite student-athletes to Seton Hall. This is a vision we share with our BIG EAST counterparts. Seton Hall is an esteemed member of the conference since its inception and together we stand firm in our dedication to adapting to new legislation in order to remain one of the premier leagues in the nation.
Facility Upgrades Nearing Completion
As you may know, we are in the midst of a multi-million dollar overhaul of our athletics facilities. For any student-athlete, the state of the amenities offered to them can serve as a physical representation of the University's investment in their pursuits.
Here at The Hall, each decision we make is with the benefit of our student-athletes in mind.
Last fall, we completed the construction of a brand-new Center for Sports Medicine and the expanded Charles W. Doehler Academic Center for Excellence in an effort to address two core areas related to promoting the welfare of the young men and women who choose to represent Seton Hall.
As the calendar has turned to the new academic year, we continue to work to transform the foundation of Seton Hall Athletics. With work rapidly progressing in that area, I am pleased to say we are on track to reach another significant landmark in the coming months.
For the first time in the history of our department, each varsity sport will enjoy its own sport-specific locker room. The outline of these rooms has already been framed and when complete, each will be filled with new furniture and equipment as well as Seton Hall branding.
Such developments are part of our ongoing Pride & Excellence Campaign and are made possible by the generous support of donors at all levels. Donors will receive permanent recognition in the Richie Regan Recreation Center and also have the opportunity to name a room, locker or other space in one of the new facilities.
Construction has already begun on a new varsity weight room, more than doubling the size of the previous site. We are currently reviewing the graphics, furniture and equipment that will populate the new space, which will be in line with our mission to provide an elite student-athlete experience.

Season Ticket Renewal Deadline Approaching
The 2014-15 basketball season is right around the corner and the renewal deadline for season tickets is nine days away. We are very excited to get another thrilling year of basketball underway at the Prudential Center, which has undergone many improvements during the off season. Pirate fans will experience new gourmet food and beverage options through a new partnership with Legends Hospitality, as well as enhancements to the in-game experience and significant renovations throughout building.
We are scheduled for 14 games at The Rock, including our always highly anticipated meeting with Rutgers on Dec. 6 and a full BIG EAST home slate. The public release of our complete schedule is on the horizon, and like last year, we believe our national television exposure will compare with the most coverage the program has received in its history.
In order to hold your seats, be sure to contact Jim Semerad in the Athletic Ticket Office by Friday, September 12, at (973) 275-4255 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Renewal payments can also be made online via Account Manager HERE.
Seton Hall Game Day Live App
As we continue to improve coverage and offer fans the latest digital platforms to follow our 14 athletic programs, we are excited to announce the launch of our revamped official Seton Hall Athletics mobile applications. Through our partnership with CBS Interactive Advanced Media we unveiled the full version of the Seton Hall Gameday Live app last week, which is available on iOS and Android devices in the App Store and Google Play marketplaces, respectively. Some of my favorite features within the new application are live video and live stat enhancements, twitter integration, as well as push notifications. Take a few minutes to download the free application to keep up with all the happenings around Seton Hall Athletics.
Pirate Blue Beefsteak Dinner
Space is filling up quickly for the 2014 Pirate Blue Beefsteak Dinner . We are less than one month away from the annual event which ultimately kicks off our men's and women's basketball calendar. Hosted inside historic Walsh Gymnasium, this year's event will be held on Thursday, October 2 and we are expecting a record turnout. Last year, over 500 Pirate fans joined us as we helped raise more than $85,000, mostly driven by an elaborate silent auction that features a variety of items including, vacations, golf packages and memorabilia. This is traditionally the first opportunity fans will have to hear head coaches Kevin Willard and Anthony Bozzella previewing the upcoming season. Entry is $90 and sponsorship opportunities are still available. Contact Jay Judge at (973) 275-2202 / Jay.Judge@shu.edu or Josh Karp (973) 275-6446 / Joshua.Karp@shu.edu to secure your spot. The cocktail hour begins at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m.
