SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall women's soccer junior midfielder Nicki Gross (Emerson, N.J.) earned BIG EAST Player of the Week honors for the week-ending September 6, 2008. The announcement was made by the BIG EAST Conference on Monday, September 7.
Gross tallied four goals and was credited with one assist for a nine point effort in the Pirates three victories last week, improving their record to 3-1 for the 2009 season.
On Monday, the first-year captain scored the game-tying goal in the 60th minute, picked up an assist on the game-winning goal by sophomore Ashley Beamish (Buffalo, N.Y.) in the 77th minute, and added an insurance goal two minutes later in the Pirates, 4-2, victory over Fairfield.
On Sunday, Gross scored her third goal of the week in the ninth minute - the eventual game-winner - and her fourth goal in the 64th minute as the Hall defeated Fordham, 4-1.
Gross will lead the streaking Pirates into Virginia this weekend as they will compete in the Virginia Nike Classic Tournament. Following a match-up against Dartmouth on Friday, Seton Hall will play host school Virginia on Sunday.
