NEW YORK – Seton Hall softball standouts Ragen Reddick (Middlesex, N.J.) and Alexis Walkden (Cibolo, Texas) have been named Second Team All-BIG EAST, the league announced on Wednesday (May 11). The Pirates have now had multiple All-Conference performers in all four seasons under head coach Paige Smith.
Reddick becomes the second-straight freshman to receive All-Conference honors for the Pirates after Walkden was a First Team selection in 2015. The rookie became the primary shortstop for The Hall early in the season and did not disappoint, finishing with a .300 average in 51 contests, including 48 starts. Reddick added a pair of home runs, four doubles and 11 RBIs, scoring 19 runs and drawing 17 walks. She finished second on the squad and fifth in the BIG EAST with a .447 on-base percentage. During conference play Reddick ramped up her production, slashing .385/.538/.590 while starting all 19 league contests. In BIG EAST play she ranked 10th in the conference in hitting and third in on-base percentage.
Walkden is a repeat All-Conference performer after turning in another stellar season during her sophomore campaign. The third baseman started every contest and led the Pirates across the board offensively, batting .372 with eight home runs and 38 RBIs. She also scored 36 runs, doubled 10 times, tripled twice and stole 12 bases. Her 36 walks set a new single-season program record and she ranked top-five in the BIG EAST in home runs, RBIs, total bases (96), walks, on-base percentage (.495) and slugging percentage (.615), During BIG EAST play Walkden finished fifth in the league with a .407 batting average.
The Pirates finished the 2016 campaign with a 24-30 record and tied for fifth in the final conference standings at 7-12.
