SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.- Following a successful 2015-16 campaign, reigning BIG EAST Coach of the Year Ron Farina has announced the schedule for the upcoming 2016-17 men’s and women’s swimming and diving seasons.
The schedule includes 13 regular season meets with six of those meets taking place in Seton Hall’s Arthur E. Imperattore Natatorium. The season will come to a close at the 2017 BIG EAST Championships beginning on February 22 at the Nassau Aquatic Center over four consecutive days.
Action in the pool begins on Oct. 1 as new and old Pirate swimmers will come together for the annual Blue vs White Alumni Meet. The 2016-17 season will begin officially on Oct. 7 as the Pirates will host Montclair State and St. Peter’s for the Seton Hall Tri Meet. Both the men’s and women’s squads swept the meet last season.
The Hall will get a chance to see BIG EAST rivals Butler and Xavier early on in the season as they will face off at a quad meet hosted by West Virginia. The four teams will compete from Oct. 14-15.
Once the team returns from West Virginia, they’ll head to nearby Monmouth for a mid-week meet against the Blue Hawks. Following that, the Pirates will have back-to-back home meets on Oct. 29 and 30 against conference foe Providence, followed by Bucknell.
The next weekend, both teams will face BIG EAST teams Georgetown and Villanova as well as Rutgers at the Rutgers quad meet from Nov. 4-5.
To close out the month of November, the Pirates will head down to George Mason for the Patriot Invitational (Nov. 17-19). Before the year ends, qualified swimmers and divers will compete in the USA Swimming Nationals hosted by Georgia Tech.
Going into 2017, the team will embark on a training trip to Colorado Springs and Arizona from Dec. 29 to Jan. 4.
Just two days after returning home from the training trip, the team will get back into competition in South Orange for a dual meet against Iona on Jan/ 6. The Pirates will then have a week off from competition until they head to Rider (Jan. 13.)
Senior Day will take place during the team’s final home meet on Saturday, Jan. 21 against Marist. The next day, the team will head up to UConn. After back-to-back meets, The Pirates will be back in action in Ithaca, N.Y. for the Bucknell Invite, the last meet before the BIG EAST Championships.
The Pirates will return nine All-BIG EAST Honorees for the upcoming campaign, including reigning BIG EAST Male Swimmer of the Year Noah Yanchulis (Arnold, Md.).
