Go, Signorelli Claim BIG EAST Excellence Awards

July 11, 2016 NEW YORK, N.Y. – Seton Hall men’s golfer Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines) and swimmer Gabby Signorelli (Massapequa, N.Y.) were named 2015-16 BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete Sports Excellence Award recipients on Monday (July 11).

The Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Awards are given to one student-athlete in each BIG EAST-sponsored sport based on academic credentials, athletic accolades or performances and volunteer service to the community. Student-athletes who have attained junior academic standing and a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 are eligible. The winners are chosen by the BIG EAST Faculty Athletics Representative Council.

Named BIG EAST Player of the Year, Go became only the third Seton Hall golfer to win the individual BIG EAST Championship. His historic tournament was fueled by a record-breaking second round. The junior fired a Callawassie Island course-record, 7-under-par, 65, that began on Monday and ended on Tuesday after lightning suspended play. Additionally, Go’s 7-under-par, 65, is the lowest single-round ever shot for a Seton Hall golfer at the BIG EAST Championship, and the second-lowest for a golfer from any school in the history of the conference tournament.

Prior to the BIG EAST Championship, Go became the first three-time All-BIG EAST performer in Seton Hall history. Also a BIG EAST Academic All-Star, he shaved more than two full strokes off his scoring average from a year ago and led the BIG EAST Conference with a 71.67 average. Go tallied nine top-10 finishes in just 12 tournaments this year and shot a team-best 13 sub-par rounds. He has recorded five top-5 finishes and had four sub-par tournaments.

Signorelli graduates from Seton Hall has the most decorated diver in both Seton Hall and BIG EAST Conference history. This year, she claimed the BIG EAST title in both the one and three-meter competitions for a third straight year. She is the only BIG EAST diver to ever sweep both titles, three times, and is the lone six-time BIG EAST champion. An Academic Merit Award recipient, Signorelli was named BIG EAST Most Outstanding Female Diver for a third straight time in 2016.

A BIG EAST Academic All-Star, Signorelli recorded 12 first places finishes this year and qualified for the NCAA Zone A Regionals from both the one and three-meter heights. The holder of numerous school records, she was named Seton Hall’s Senior Female Co-Athlete of the Year in 2016.
