With just five BIG EAST matches remaining, Seton Hall plays crucial playoff positioning matches.
One of the greatest players in program history, Allie Matters will enter her fourth year at Seton Hall in 2015 as an assistant coach on head coach Allison Yaeger's staff.
Last season, Matters helped lead Seton Hall to arguably its most-successful season in program history. The Pirates improved by 12 victories from 2013 to 2014, which was tied for the fourth-best improvement in the country and finished with a 28-8 overall record, the second-most wins ever at Seton Hall. Seton Hall nearly doubled its record for BIG EAST victories with 15, and finished second in the final conference standings after being predicted to place sixth. The season culminated with the program's first-ever berth in the NCAA Tournament. For the efforts of Matters and Yaeger in 2014, Seton Hall earned BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year.
Matters is responsible for recruiting, scouting, organizing team practice, coordinating travel, and serves as director of the program's summer camps.
The former standout libero returned to South Orange after spending the two prior seasons at Canisius. Matters was initially brought to the Griffs as a graduate assistant before being elevated to a full-time assistant coach in 2011.
Matters played from 2006-09, racking up numerous records and leading Seton Hall to its first BIG EAST Championship appearance in 15 years as a senior. She spent her first two seasons playing outside-hitter (and led the team in kills and attacks in both years)before moving to her natural libero position.
A two-time All-BIG EAST Second-Team selection, Matters recorded double-digit digs in the final 68 matches of her career with the Pirates - the nation's longest active streak at the end of the 2009 season. She currently ranks third and fourth on Seton Hall's lists for single-season digs and second for career digs (1,945). Matters was named Seton Hall Overall Co-Female Athlete of the Year after the 2008 season and the Seton Hall Freshman Female Athlete of the Year the 2006 season.
