Fournier, Seton Hall Take Home Major Awards

Tessa Fournier
Nov. 25, 2014

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Sophomore Tessa Fournier (Redondo Beach, Calif.) was named BIG EAST Libero of the Year, and Seton Hall was named Coaching Staff of the Year on Monday.

Additionally, four student-athletes earned all-conference honors. The legendary Manthorpe sisters as well as Fournier were named to the All-BIG EAST First Team, while Amanda Hansen (Pewaukee, Wis.) was named to the Second Team.

Seton Hall takes home Libero of the Year for the third consecutive season after Alyssa Warren won the prestigious honor in back-to-back seasons. Fournier has led the BIG EAST in digs and digs per game for most of the 2014 season. Her 5.49 digs per set ranks ninth in the nation, and recently, she tied Seton Hall's single-match record with 45 digs vs. DePaul on Nov. 15. She needs just 12 more digs to set the Seton Hall single-season record.

Additionally, Allison Yaeger and Allie Matters were named BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year. The Pirates are 27-6 overall. Their 27 wins ties for the second-most victories in program history. Furthermore, it's only the third time in Seton Hall history that the Pirates are guaranteed a single-digit loss season. Seton Hall's 15-3 BIG EAST Conference record is also a team-best. The Pirates' prior record for conference wins was only eight, a number The Hall nearly doubled this season. Lastly, Seton Hall qualified for the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time since 2011. Due to the reconstruction of the conference, the Pirates are automatically a part of the semifinals for the first time since 1994.

Both Manthorpes and Fournier were named to the BIG EAST All-Conference First Team. Amanda Hansen earned Second Team honors.

Shelbey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.) becomes the first player in Seton Hall history to earn post-season All-BIG EAST honors in all four seasons. Named Seton Hall Classic Most Valuable Player, she was twice named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll and BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week. Shelbey finished the season ranked third in the BIG EAST in assists per set and 14th in digs per set. One of only four players in Seton Hall history with over 4,000 career assists, she is the only player in Pirates' history with over 4,000 assists and 1,400 digs.

Stacey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.) was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 3 and to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll five times this season. Named to the Seton Hall Invitational All-Tournament Team, Stacey led the Pirates with 21 double-doubles in 2014. She finished fifth in the BIG EAST in kills per set and 11th in digs per set. Stacey graduates as the only player in Seton Hall history to rank in the career top-five in both kills and digs.

Junior Amanda Hansen earns All-Conference honors for the first time in her career. Named to both the West Virginia Invitational and Seton Hall Classic All-Tournament Teams, she led the Pirates and ranked fourth in the BIG EAST in attack percentage. Hansen also ranked fourth in the conference in total blocks and blocks per set.

The Pirates will return to action this Friday when they begin play at the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time since 2011. The second-seeded Pirates will face third-seeded Marquette in Milwaukee. Match time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET. The match will be broadcast live via the BIG EAST Digital Network and can be seen on the Fox Sports Go app.
