Warren Repeats as BIG EAST Libero of the Year

Alyssa Warren

Nov. 27, 2013

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Senior Alyssa Warren (Joliet, Ill.) has successfully defended her title as BIG EAST Libero of the Year, becoming only the fourth multiple-year winner of the award in conference history. Warren also earned First Team All-Conference honors, while teammates Shelbey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.) and Stacey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.) earned Second Team recognition.

In 2012, Warren was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team in addition to Libero of the Year.

A participant in all 125 sets Seton Hall played this season, Warren became Seton Hall's all-time career digs leader in a match vs. Columbia on Sept. 21. She has topped 20 digs in a single-match 16 times this season, and became the only player in Pirates' history with over 2,000 career digs. Warren recorded two of her four career double-doubles this season (assists and digs) and finished the season leading the BIG EAST in digs per set for a second straight season. Furthermore, she finished the 2013 campaign ranked 26th in the nation in digs per set. In one particularly impressive match, she recorded a season-high 32 digs and 10 assists against BIG EAST powerhouse, Xavier, on Oct. 26. Warren is a team co-captain and the lone senior on the 2013 team.

Shelbey Manthorpe earns All-Conference honors for a third straight year. A starter in all 31 matches this season, Manthorpe has again proved to be an all-around force for the Pirates. A co-captain, she recorded 10 triple-doubles this season, two more than when she led the nation with eight triple-doubles in 2012. Named BIG EAST Player of the Week on Nov. 18, she has also been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll three times. Manthorpe was named to the All-Tournament Team in all three tournaments that Seton Hall played in, the U.S. Military Academy Tournament, Yale University Tournament ant Cavalier Classic. On Nov. 16 vs. Creighton, she nearly recorded the program's first quadruple-double, finishing with 36 assists, 11 digs, nine kills and a career-high eight blocks. Named to the 2013 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team, she ranks amongst Seton Hall's career leaders in both assists and digs, despite being only a junior.

Stacey Manthorpe notches her second straight All-Conference Second Team recognition in 2013. Regarded as the Pirates' top offensive threat in 2013, she was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Oct. 21, and led the team with 2.67 kills per set, while ranked third with 2.79 digs per set. Named to the Cavalier Classic All-Tournament Team, Manthorpe has recorded 14 double-doubles in 2013, second only to her sister Shelbey. As opposed to most, her numbers are better in conference play than non-conference play. Manthorpe averaged 3.20 kills per set and 3.05 digs per set in 16 conference matches. She has tallied at least 11 kills in her last six matches, including a 17-kill outburst vs. Marquette on Nov. 15.
